Terra Incognita
Terra Incognita is the codename for Unified DNS Build 2026.07.28, our largest release yet. UDNS Hosting turns Unified DNS into authoritative DNS hosting for your clients' zones. A public API opens the platform up to your own tooling. And notifications finally live where you're already looking.
Every Unified DNS release gets a codename — this one is Terra Incognita, taken from Gojira's 2001 debut album. In the oldest sense of the term, it marked the blank space at the edge of a map: territory no one had charted yet, mapped only by actually going there. Until now, Unified DNS has been a management layer sitting on top of DNS infrastructure someone else operates — Cloudflare, Porkbun, GoDaddy, and the rest. Build 2026.07.28 is the release that changes that.
UDNS Hosting (Releasing July 28)
MSPs can now host a client's zone directly on Unified DNS instead of depending on a third party's uptime, API stability, or pricing to keep DNS running.
- Own the Nameservers: Geographically redundant, continuously replicated, and fully under Unified DNS's control
- Onboard However You Want: Start blank, scan a domain's live DNS, or import a BIND zone file, with a review step before go-live
- DNSSEC From Day One: Enable signing directly from the zone panel the moment delegation is confirmed
- Built-In URL Redirects: Point an entire domain at another live site with a managed 301/302 redirect, SSL included
- Audit Logging & Quick Restore: Every change is logged with a timestamp and actor; reverting a record is one click
- Same Dashboard, No Extra Work: Hudu sync, compliance reports, and dashboard counts treat UDNS-hosted zones like every other provider
Note: A restrictive CAA record blocks certificate issuance for a Redirect set up afterward on the same domain. Remove or update the CAA record first.
In-App Notifications
A redesigned notification bell in the top bar is now the fastest way to see what's happening across every client.
- Every Alert, One Bell: Every alert type across the platform now surfaces in the top bar, gated by your existing Email/Slack/Discord/Teams preferences
- Full Notification History: A dedicated Notifications page with filtering by category, severity, read status, and delivery channel
- Know What Actually Got Delivered: A Delivered To tag confirms whether a notification reached Email, Slack, Discord, Teams, or your PSA
- A New Alert to Watch: UDNS Delegation Confirmed joins the DNS Zone alert category
Public API Access
Manage DNS programmatically — call zones, records, and domains directly instead of only through the dashboard.
- Scoped API Keys: Seven capability scopes across zones, records, domains, and clients; nothing is granted by default
- Zones, Records, Domains, Clients: List, create, update, and delete records, trigger a sync, and manage registration details
- Safe Rotation: Put a key on a rotation schedule with a grace period, or rotate and revoke on demand
- Built to Be Watched: Every request is logged, including denied and rate-limited attempts, with a full audit trail
- Interactive API Reference: A live API reference covering the public API surface
