UDNS Hosted

Authoritative DNS, built directly into Unified DNS. Point a client's domain straight at UDNS instead of a third-party host — geographically redundant nameservers, DNSSEC on by default, and no per-zone billing. Now in partner preview.

Why It Exists
Unified DNS was built to manage every provider from one place. That only works if the provider actually lets you in, and some of the biggest registrars gate API access behind domain-count minimums or a paid add-on plan most small business clients will never hit. UDNS Hosted closes that gap: a client's domain can point its nameservers straight at UDNS and get managed in the same dashboard as every other client domain, regardless of where it's registered.

What's Included
- No Per-Zone Billing: Included in your Unified DNS plan, no separate hosting fee per domain
- Geographically Redundant: ns1.udns.zone and ns2.udns.zone run in separate regions over a private, sub-second replication path
- DNSSEC by Default: Signing starts the moment a zone is created, on both nameservers
- Three Onboarding Paths: Start blank, scan public DNS, or import a BIND zone file
- Audit Trail & Quick Restore: One-click record revert and pre-change zone snapshots, not just a history log
- Domain Forwarding + SSL: Built-in proxy layer with automatic SSL cert provisioning and renewal
- PSA & Hudu Sync: HaloPSA, Autotask, Syncro, and SuperOps integration, plus automatic Hudu documentation
- Same Dashboard: Managed alongside Cloudflare, NameSilo, Namecheap, Porkbun, OpenSRS, Azure DNS, and more

Zone Onboarding: Three Ways In
- Start Blank: Best for new domains with no existing DNS. Creates an empty zone with only SOA and NS records.
- Public DNS Scan: Best for fast migration of a live domain. Queries the domain's current nameservers and imports what's publicly resolvable.
- Import BIND Zone File: Best for complete migration from another platform. Parses a standard RFC 1035 zone file exported from cPanel, Plesk, or another DNS provider.

Infrastructure
ns1.udns.zone and ns2.udns.zone run as a redundant pair, split across separate regions and connected over private network peering. Record changes sync between nameservers in under a second. Both nameservers are backed up independently, and either can take over serving a zone within minutes if the other goes down. DNSSEC signing runs on both nameservers at all times. UDNS Hosted doesn't run on an Anycast network yet — that's a deliberate trade-off, not an oversight.

Not White-Labelled
ns1.udns.zone and ns2.udns.zone are shared, platform-branded nameservers, not a hostname on the MSP's own domain. What the MSP owns is the operational layer: the infrastructure decisions, the API keys, the data, and the audit trail.
